About the company
A Hong Kong private company licensed to carry on business as a money lender.
UB Finance (HK) Limited holds Money Lender's Licence No. 1839/2025, granted under the Money Lenders Ordinance (Cap. 163). Licences in Hong Kong are renewed every year. You can confirm that our licence is current by finding our name or licence number in the Companies Registry's published list of money lenders licensees. Please check this yourself before you borrow from any lender, including us.
We deal with applicants ourselves, from the first enquiry to the final repayment. We decide each application on its merits after an affordability assessment. Not every application is approved, and we would rather decline a loan than offer one you cannot comfortably repay.
We do not take deposits, we are not a bank, and we do not arrange loans from other lenders. We have no connection with UOB Finance (HK) Limited, with United Overseas Bank, or with UB Finance in Sri Lanka.
How a loan is made
The same steps for every borrower, all documented.
Direct enquiry
Contact us only through the phone number or email address on this page. No agent, broker or "consultant" acts for us, and none is entitled to any payment.
Documents and assessment
We ask for proof of identity, address and income, and we assess whether the repayments fit your budget. You never pay a fee for an application or an assessment.
Key terms in writing
Before you sign, we give you the principal, the interest rate as a percentage per year, the repayment schedule and every charge. Take the papers away and read them. There is no deadline.
Signed agreement and your copy
The agreement is signed in our office. You receive your own copy of the signed agreement within 7 days of the loan being made.
Repayment and statements
You repay into the company's own account, never a personal account. You can ask in writing at any time for a statement showing what you have paid and what you still owe.
Agreement checklist
Use this with any loan offer, from us or from any other lender. Tick what you can actually find in the papers in front of you.
Also tick any of these if they happened:
This checklist runs only in your browser. Nothing you tick is sent to anyone.
Interest-rate limits
Two thresholds in the Money Lenders Ordinance protect every borrower in Hong Kong.
Above 48% a year is unlawful. No one may lend at an effective rate above 48% per year, and an agreement at such a rate is unenforceable.
Above 36% a year may be found extortionate. A court may treat a rate above 36% per year as extortionate and reopen the transaction.
The figure that matters is the effective annual rate, which counts all interest and charges. A "flat" monthly rate can mean a much higher effective rate, so always ask for the yearly percentage in writing.
This is a plain summary for general information, not legal advice. For advice on a particular agreement, consult a solicitor.
Before you borrow
A loan from a money lender is rarely the cheapest option. Check these first.
Your own bank
Banks often offer lower rates on personal loans, instalment loans and overdrafts to existing customers. Ask for their effective annual rate and compare.
Your creditors
If you are behind on a bill, contact the company you owe. Many will agree to a payment plan, which costs less than borrowing to pay them.
Free debt counselling
Several non-profit social service organisations in Hong Kong offer free, confidential debt counselling. Speak to one before taking a new loan to repay an old one.
Consumer Council
The Consumer Council gives free information on credit products and handles consumer complaints.
Borrow less
Borrow only what you need, over the shortest term you can afford. A longer term means lower instalments but more interest overall.
Never borrow to gamble
If gambling is behind the need to borrow, please seek free help from a gambling counselling service rather than a loan.
Fraud notice
Fraudsters impersonate licensed lenders. Here is what UB Finance (HK) Limited will never do.
If someone uses our name and does any of these things, do not pay. Report it to the Police, or call the Anti-Scam Helpline on 18222, and let us know at the email address below. To check whether any lender is licensed, search the Companies Registry's list of money lenders licensees.
